Kelly Services SL Concert Series Continues TONIGHT 3/26

March 26, 2008 at 10:46 am (Blue Fusion, Live Music, Marketing, concert, cylindrian, holli hollwood, kelly services, second life, sl, sl musician, staffing, virtual music)

Don’t forget about this show.

I am purposefully not doing many shows this week as I have been rehearsing for a special Relay for Life performance on Sunday, March 30th and prepping for tonights’ show at Blue Fusion. The show tonight is important to me, because its part of a Professional Staffing Company, Kelly Service’s, attempt at making a real life difference in people’s lives through second life by providing people with an opportunity to find employment. The use of a virtual world for Job Placement, in my mind, is fascinating and I love the creative use of the platform to do so.

They are supportive of live music and I’m grateful for the opportunity to be included in their “roster”.

Here’s the advert from the previous blog entry with links to get to the show, Kelly Services’ Sim in SL, and their website talking about their presence in SL.

Thanks to Holli Hollwood of Blue Fusion for this opportunity.

Error in Encoding from CD Baby to MP3 Downloads and “River” Back in Stock

March 24, 2008 at 9:34 am (cd baby, dave spencer, error, grace buford, itunes, river cd)

A few days ago I received a message from a fan in Second Life stating that they attempted to download my song, “Float Away” from iTunes. Instead, they received, “The Demon Song”. I went and checked various other sites and they have all mixed up these two songs.

The mp3’s have been available for download for over 6 months and this is the first time anyone has expressed a complaint. I asure you that I am researching the problem and hopefully will have it fixed very soon.

If you would prefer to receive a hard copy CD, please feel free to purchase from CD BABY: http://cdbaby.net/gracebuford2  They should have new copies in by Tuesday, March 25th.

Or…the first 200 CDs sold and purchased from me directly from my Myspace Page (using Paypal) will be signed and if this purchase is a gift and you have a special message that you’d like me to include, please state that in description portion of the order form on paypal. I spent a bit more money on this CD from DiscMakers mainly to compensate for losing so much inventory in all my travels because of silly jewel cases breaking. The new design is called an Eco-Wallet. Thanks again to my good buddy, Dave Spencer for doing all the graphic design-work on the re-print.

March 21, 2008 at 1:21 pm (Live Music, Marketing, Musicians, Musings, best of sl magazine, changhigh, cylindrian, music, sl, yman)

Saturday 22th March 2008

The show is a mixture of highly spiritual music and cosmic speech blended with universal insight, wisdom and philosophy.
Only the best scripters available in Second Life have been used to create the ultimate firetools and a fantastic assortment of lighting effects, the pyramids and trapezes.
But really, the best thing to do is to come and see for yourself and experience the magic!

It is our wish and desire that Light, Life and Love may prevail and sustain within you on your journey through the labyrinth of knowledge, understanding and wisdom, as you progress forward into immortality, and on into eternity for eventually one day to be a child of The universe in Love with it all and The One.

We ask You to give from your heart, your mind, your personality, your soul and spirit…cause please consider and remember….. If your children and their grandchildren is going to live here and be the new caretakers, torchbearers and trailblazers of the future of planet earth, we the parents, the old ones must pave the way for the Light, life and Love which surely will come after us.

Part of the incoming Linden will be given to various organisations who help children and who work on restoring earth

Together with Cylindrians live music, the ChangHigh Sisters will not only dance their beautiful firedances of an exotic and seductive nature, but will in the show, present the virtuals worlds first 2, 3, 6 and 7 acrobatic pyramids and will jump up in their rotating trapezes and show the harmony and elegance of an almost unseen kind ever before.

Come and see them while they are on fire, alive and in action they are the most unusual performing troup today in SL .

With Love, Light and Life from Cylindrian Rutabaga & ChangHigh Trinity Sisters

Sincerely Yman Juran………… on behalf of my sisters and together we are The ChangHIGH Trinity Sisters of Light, Life and Love.

**It’s exciting for me to be a part of something that is more than just my avatar performing music in SL. I am thrilled that Yman asked to choreograph her and her sisters routine to the music that I produce. I look forward to these two shows on the 22nd. This was supposed to be a ticketed only event, but due to my being ill for a few weeks and then the tour in San Francisco, I didn’t have enough time to put it together. So, you get to see these performances for free. We do ask that you please tip, blog about the experience, take pictures, and tell your friends about it. Word of mouth is the best form of advertising. Looking forward to tomorrow. Be blessed!  ~cyl~**

The Austin 80

March 20, 2008 at 2:31 pm (Benefits, Community, burhma, chadrick baker, cylindrian, elaine allan, the austin 80)

chadrick baker turned me on to this cause by his own personal experience with the organizer Ms. Elaine Allan. I would like to help orchestrate some sort of an event to involve the virtual community in fulfilling the needs for these people. The Austin 80 is not a charitable organization so doing a fund-raiser isn’t something that we can do…as of yet.

Read the following e-mail that Elaine sent to Chadrick about The Austin 80 and then read my idea lets see what we can do together:

Elaine’s Email, list and address at the bottom:

“Yes, there are about 81 people, all in one apartment complex on Rutland. There are also a few from the same “batch” from the refugee camp, who landed in a complex on Burton, which is off east Riverside Drive, but I don’t go there much and it is less than 20 people, including children. However, i have included their needs in this list you asked for. They are babies to elderly, and of Christian, Moslem, and Buddhist religion (the bulk are Christian).
No one has a car.
Most of them do not have a phone yet because of the expense, although some do.
NO ONE HAS A COMPUTER. If they had computers, just about any computers, they could communicate with their monk out on Hwy 71, and their refugee relatives in other countries. The kids could do their schoolwork, and the parents could do the ESL CDs I bring them from Half-Price Books, and the kids could do the learning games I have brought them against the day when they might have a computer. The kids cannot use the school computers before or after school easily at the middle or high school because they ride the bus, which gets them there just before school, and leaves right after school. IF I COULD GET THEM ANY ONE THING ON THIS WHOLE LIST, IT WOULD BE THIS.
In the group on Rutland, 37 are children under 18. None of the teenagers have a good calculator for school use. Imagine school nowadays without a calculator — I used one in high school in the 70’s (thte TI-40 — weren’t they a godsend??)!
Not everyone who needs a bike has one, and nobody has a bike patch repair kit or bike pump or tools to fix a flat.
There are several babies in diapers, which are very expensive and not covered by food stamps of course, and a lady due to deliver pretty soon. They don’t have proper carseats that I know of, and need infant and toddler. I know they don’t have cars, but when volunteers drive them, the baby has to be in a carseat.
Not everybody has socks or sufficient underwear because when I do clothing drives nobody gives these items — because they wouldn’t want to wear someone else’s!
The new people need umbrellas because they walk or ride the bus everywhere.
They need spoons, ricecookers, coffeemakers, mugs, and kitchen towels. They also need dishwashing liquid and laundry soap, bar soap, shampoo, and maybe some conditioner. And they need skin lotion if possible because they are used to living in a warmer, moister environment (I know, here are some folks who will like Austin’s summers!)
Not everybody has a toothbrush. I know in one family they share one. Others don’t have any now. Not everyone has a brush or comb, and some of the ladies and girls would like something to hold their straight black hair away from their face (like barrettes or ponytail holders or scrunchies or clips) but they are so expensive.
I have been taking them books every week, courtesy of Half-Price Books, for a couple of months now, but nobody has a bookshelf that I have seen and so these are beginning to get in the way. The reason this is bad is because they tend to be picked up and piled with the other “junk” the children have strewn on the floor and piled somewhere, making them less accessible and appealing for the next time. If anyone has any old bookshelves, telephone standa, bedside stands with a shelf, magazine rack — anything whch would help keep the books out and in easy sight and reach — I hope I can get it to them. Needless to say, the kids who look at their books the most are coming along the best in English.
Some of the apartments can use some more light, such as from a floor lamp, because a floor lamp doesn’t need to have an existing piece of furniture to be set upon.
None of the rest require any comment and I will try my best guess at the number needed to help out both the large group I see many times a week and the few at the south location. Well, okay, one comment, I have been inside each home many times and I know who is sharing bath towels, who has no toothbrushes, who is pregnant, etc.:

*NOT A NECESSARY — JUST FOR FUN

The address to ship stuff:
12411 Turtleback Lane
Austin, TX 78727

If you have specific questions for Elaine, you can contact her at: borntohelp@earthlink.net
But please do not spam her, she’s a senior citizen and can only manage so much.

I would like to personally have created a sign or some creative representation of this group notecard and URL giver that I could place out at my shows alongside my merchtable to help raise awareness for the needs of these people. If anyone out there reads about this cause and has a brainstorm of creativity and wants to create something that folks can click on where they recieve the notecard and url as well as a t-shirt or headband or armband or legband or something unique to place on there avatar…that way if you’re wandering around and people ask…”hey whats’ that” thing floating around your head…or nice back pack…or tool belt or whatever the object ends up being…you can reply with “I wear this *fill in the blank* to raise awareness for the Austin 80….maybe it’d just be a t-shirt with A-80 on it…is that a weapon? i better research that before i propose it as an idea.

I’m thinking a virtual concert would be great to raise awareness…i know that Relay for Life is going on and I don’t care to detract from that, but again, as I stated earlier…they need physical items…not money. Lindens’ won’t work in this case…but getting the word out about their needs and trying to rally their local community is crucial. I know that a lot of my fans live in and around Austin…would be great to see some Austin Musicians perform a concert for them…and fuse that with a virtual concert too. Wouldn’t that kick ass? To have austin Musicians performing and virtual one’s right next to them on a big screen on a big stage…with the virtual musician’s music coming through giant speakers…oh I can totally see that…BUT…I dont’ know that reality is ready for that kind of thinking YET! Let’s get some folks on board who ARE!

FOR NOW….Do you have any ideas? Lets roll with it and see what we as individuals and as a virtual community can do to help.

New Location to the Blue Fusion Show tonight 7pmSLT

March 19, 2008 at 1:56 pm (Artropolis, Blue Fusion, Community, Fan Group, Internet Radio, Live Music, Marketing, Musicians, Musings, cylindrian, filthy fluno, holli hollwood, juel resistance, love grotto, music, passion caves, san francisco, second life, sl)

After meeting Holli Hollwood in San Francisco, I became inspired to do more than perform in the Blue Fusion Club itself. There is so much more the Blue Fusion Sim than the club. She took me on a brief tour of the island and we found the perfect place for tonights’ shows.

Tonight Juel and I will be set up to perform at the: Passion Caves and Love Grotto

The view is beautiful from up there. If draw distance is far enough out, you can see Blue Fusion Club in the distance as well as the rolling hills of Artropolis.

Not only are Artropolis and Blue Fusion neighbors, which I love since I reside on Artropolis at Cylindrian’s Joint, pop by when you have a chance and leave a note on my board or pick up your free Earth Day Necklace by Ding! Designs, or hangout looking at artwork on my walls…or just exploring the island. What makes this special is the symbiotic relationship between the two sims. Blue Fusions’ gallery features many Artropolis residents’ artwork. Artropolis is where they have their studios set up and the Fusion is where they share their art in a more collaborative space. Check out the galleries when you have a chance and then take the boat to Artropolis and meet the artists themselves at their Studios.

The Passion Cave and Love Grotto Stage Area is set up on top of the caves over a large waterfall. Its very natural looking, which for me being a nature girl…I absolutely love and feel most comfortable. I enjoy playing music outdoors…even in a virtual world. Maybe one day I can play music in space in a space suit made out of some of Filthy Fluno’s Artwork and float over the audience with jetpacks and particles. Wouldn’t that be a hoot! (for me it would at least)

I suppose the space theme doesn’t really fit with my style of music…but who knows…maybe that will change. We artists get bored sometimes and require change to keep the creative juices flowing.

So come by the Passion Caves and Love Grotto on Blue Fusion TONIGHT: 7pmSLT and stay to hear Juel at 8pmSLT.  (if you teleport in by the Fusion Club…there are teleporters available to take you to the Passion Caves. Hosts will be on hand to help direct you should you get lost)

It’ll be a good time had by all.

Look forward to seeing you tonight!

Looking back on San Francisco

March 17, 2008 at 2:24 pm (Live Music, Marketing, Musicians, aki, amnesia bar, central perk, cylindrian, keiko, melanie keller, music, rock it room, san francisco, second life)

I’m prepping to return to Atlanta on the midnight flight: 10pm-ish take off and landing 6:10am in Atlanta. eep!! Why AirTran has only one flight to San Francisco from Atlanta…I can’t figure it out…but…thank goodness they do have at least one flight. I am exhausted by this trip, but completely thrilled with how things turned out.

I met more Second Life residents and musicians than I ever have on any other SL-related trip I’ve been on…not including the Second Life Community Convention. For me, Second Life has been an incredible blessing…not only as a place to perform music in a safe environment, but even more so…the opportunity to connect with people that I most likely wouldn’t have met. In the past two years of SL Resident-ship…I have traveled more places and met some truly remarkable people…and feel so complete being able to actually hug the necks of people that I have only met virtually.

The performances at Amnesia, Rock-It Room, ZeroOne’s House, and Central Perk were equally fabulous…because of the company of others: Keiko Takamura and James, Holli Hollwood and Angus, Rake Roux, Pato Milo and family, ZeroOne Paz and Terry, Newton Mincemeat, Haley Bailey, Melanie Keller, Aki Clutterbuck…and Stuart the sound system angel…having the chance to play music with so many musicians was so much fun!! Everyone bringing their own special flavor to the shows.

I got lost in the city as well…due to having no idea where anything was…and being distracted by all the great architecture. I enjoyed walks through the Haight district, passed Jerry Garcia’s house where indeed a couple stood gawking at its purple-ness…but I had no camera so I took no pictures of that. I saw the view from Twin Peaks at night…rode The Bart and Muni…from the city to Richmond…ate fantastic food…slept on a futon that was very exciting if you sit too close to the edge…had the chance to ride on the back of a motorcycle, but chickened out cause it was cold and I didn’t have a big jacket…experienced cognac…and spread the gospel of second life meets first life mash-ups.

Returning home after this trip is really hard for me. I keep fighting back the tears. Holli and Angus took such great care of me and I know they are just as exhausted as I am. The fact that people believe so much in me as a person and songwriter is baffling, humbling, honoring, and fantastic…because without people like that…I would not be able to make trips like this at all. I enjoy performing in SL…I do better as far as financially goes…but…for me, the REAL joy in performing is meeting people and getting the immediate response.

I will edit and post video as soon as I can on YouTube. I KNOW I did not get as much footage as I wanted…most of what I have experienced remains in my mind’s eye…some incredibly special moments shared with some very wonderful people.

How do I write just one song about this experience?
