Regarding Personal Assistant Position

February 22, 2008 at 3:15 pm (Musings)

Hi there,

First of all, I have to say THANK YOU so much for the incredible response I received regarding a personal assistant. I am reviewing all the applicants and will be personally contacting you all this next week to talk. Some of you I’ve already talked with. I will make my final decision by March 1st.

Also, many of you have notified me of your willingness to be a volunteer in other aspects of assistants. This means so much to me and I value all of you! I will be taking you up on the offers for volunteers and with the help of my assistant we’ll begin getting everyone organized. I look forward to building a team of volunteers that is NOT overwhelmed by my schedule.

My schedule can be very demanding. But I’m hoping that with the help of a good team…I will not be under the pressure that I am under now by myself and I will have more time to create new music.

Also, I am having serious issues with my only computer. I may not be as connected next week: Feb 24-Mar 1…as I am hoping to get the laptop repaired…IF what’s wrong with it is under warranty. (praying that it is)

I will have limited access to a computer for my few shows next week and for a bit of networking.

Please keep in mind that even if you are not selected for the Assistant position, I will have other areas where I could use you on a volunteer basis. It helps to know your strong points, talents, and passions in this industry and in SL in order to find the best position for you…and one that will be fun and non-stressful. :)

Thank you all so much again.

3rd Life Meeting

February 20, 2008 at 1:39 pm (3rd life, Art Related, Blogroll, Live Music, Musicians, Musings, SL Stuff, ahmad hosho, cylindrian, music)

Ahmad Hosho linked me to the discussion at a 3rd Life meeting.

Be sure to go and read the chat history, they had some really good discussions about SL and international culture, music, and even a layman’s viewpoint on the failure of Singing Arc. I liked getting that feedback…I only wish that folks had stated that to begin with.

One question in particular that struck my eyes was, what’s the point in doing something in SL if you’re doing it in RL?

As a touring musician…who broadcasts (when technically possible) those live performances from venues into SL…this is REALLY important. Why not combine both worlds?

Stop by Ahmad’s blog and read…cross post responses there and here. I’d love to know your thoughts.

**Thanks Ahmad!**

Personal Assistant/Public Relation Manager Needed

February 18, 2008 at 4:15 pm (Live Music, Marketing, Musings)

…creativity…entertainment…distraction…where does one find a good and trustworthy assistant?

Here’s what characteristics I am looking for in a Personal Assistant/Public Relations Manager/Team of Individuals:

* driven
* self-motivated
* trustworthy (NO roleplaying managers please and I am NOT interested in internet dating at all nor am I interested in someone who wants to “play manager”.)
* familiar with the music industry
* highly skilled at writing: for press releases, advertising, biographies, blogging
* skilled at Advertising and Marketing
* ability to update websites
* creatively open minded
* focuses on a task at hand until completion
* must be able to follow through and do what you say you will do

Duties will include:

* Assisting me with keeping up my schedule: records of venues, venues owners or contacts, time and places of performances by updating my Calendar in SL to match my Google Calendar and getting the SL Calendar distributed. (currently working on a way to tie in the google calendar to subscribers so they get a notice inworld of performances with a SLurl..that way they do not need to use up a group to get my notices)
* Writing the notices of performances to send out to my spam group (notices should read like a mini-press release)
* Assisting me with coming up with ideas on performances and how to keep things fresh and new:swag ideas, scripting ideas (not responsible for fulfilling the ideas,but any contacts with builders and scripters would be cool)
* Advertising: really need help with this one:writing Press Releases for shows
* Marketing: this is a must do as well

This is a paying position (to be discussed). There will be a 30 day trial period and if other references could be given I would love to see them. Trainin will be provided.
Ultimately I would prefer a team of people to make the job a lot better as well. We will be required to have weekly meetings to discuss the performances, follow-up with venue owners, creative ideas, etc. The main thing is, I need some folks that are dependable, as this effects my real life business. If you are not able to commit, then you need not apply.

Please send all inquiries to: gfolkymusic@gmail.com with ‘Cylindrian PR Team Applicant’ in the subject line.

There are a lot of companies in SL that represent a lot of artists. I need a group to represent me and not have their time spread out amongst a lot of other musicians. I prefer one on one contact. This may be a bad idea to some, but I need me a Jerry Maguire personality…a representative who is as invested in me as I am in my passion for what I do for a living in the real world.

**Please comment below if you’d be interested in helping out as well as send me an e-mail: gfolkymusic@gmail.com . It would help me to have responses in both places. Thanks so much!!**

In Response to a Comment Left on my Blog

February 17, 2008 at 12:00 pm (Art Related, Blue Fusion, Community, Fan Group, Live Music, Musicians, Musings, cylindrian, music)

The following is what was left on the Schedule section of my blog:

“I love your music and I’ve loved just about every SL show of yours that I”ve caught but I’m puzzled as to why you did the Fusion show on the 13th with your Avi looking like it did? . Any connection with Valentine’s Day was lost on me and while the music is far more the reason you get a crowd than how your Avatar looks you would, to my way of thinking, owe your fans some visual style as well when in concert. It wasn’t there at the Fusion gig and I felt disappointed at that. Purely a personal opinion for whatever thats’ worth”

I DID manage to find a picture of how my avatar looked during this show…thank you to Crap Mariner for posting this on the Flickr Site. Take a look at it and read my response below.

Cyllindrian at Blue Fusion Valentine's Day 1

The Blue Fusion Pre-Valentine’s Show “look” to Cylindrian was purely meant as something out of the ordinary and I found it rather amusing to dress her up differently. If you take a moment and look through the Flickr Fan Site…you’ll see that my avatar changes all the time. This show was no different in that regard. I wanted to make her look more cupid-esque and to my eyes she did…apparently we see things differently. I found it funny. But my sense of humor gets lost sometimes. It’s a shame that the appearance of my avatar has such a negative effect on listeners. I thought the music was more important…and the visual aspect of it was not important.

Let me ask you readers this…would you prefer me to be more conservative on the dressing of my avatar? Would you prefer me to find one look and just stick with it or do you mind that I change the way she looks all the time?

I personally get bored with my avatar if I don’t modify things. Same thing with my parcel on Artropolis…I change it all the time. Its just the way I’m wired…just like changing my songs all the time. I have to keep things changing and moving otherwise, I lose interest.

So what are your thoughts…..my two readers? Is what my avatar looks like important to maintain a listener base? Should I refrain from modifying my avatar to keep people coming and listening to my music?

I am very pleased that this person felt so passionate about this subject that they posted it on my blog. I thank you for doing that and I really hope that this response opens up some dialogue…because I find this subject very fascinating.

Thank you CB…whoever you are. Comment back please. I’d really like to know your thoughts.

**on a side note…I wonder if Komuso gets comments like this…and what would happen if he changed his avatar from a cyborg into a human?**

Romance at Blue Fusion: Valentine Show

February 12, 2008 at 10:04 pm (Art Related, Artropolis, Blue Fusion, Community, Fan Group, Flickr, Live Music, Marketing, Musicians, Musings, cylindrian, music, sappy, secret admirer, sonicbids, unrequited love, valentine's day)

I am playing at Blue Fusion on Feb. 13th: 6pmSLT followed by Juel Resistance at 7pmSLT

This is the night before Valentine’s Day and I was thinking that it’d be a lot of fun to do a special show that involves YOU…the listener.

Do you have someone special that you’d like to dedicate a song to and is there any particular song that you’d like me to play for them?

Please let me know TONIGHT or in the morning…so I have time to learn it if I don’t know it already. Simply put your request onto a notecard and drop it into the Valentine Box on my parcel on Artropolis.

If there is something that you’d like me to say on the mic, I’d love to do that for you as well. (and if you’d like to remain anonymous…secret admirer, unrequited love…be sure to communicate that to me and I’ll respect your privacy)

Thanks y’all…I am really looking forward to tomorrow nights show!!

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!!
