Galveston, Ratepoint, Avilion…oh my

July 27, 2007 at 8:33 am (Live Music, Musicians)

Galveston Island/Isle, which is fast becoming entertainment mecca of Second Life, is inundated with talent coming through its pixelated doors. Last Monday the Band, Grensgeval from Belgium/Netherlands played the sim. Check them out: http://WWW.GRENSGEVAL.BE

Their website is really amazing and their music was quite entertaining.

So, I’ve been playing Galveston since March, when Flaming Moe, Anakin Gallacher, Ankari Holder, and Bill and Pam Havercamp were the only musicians on the island. But they were just starting out…and now have grown to host close to 40 musicians and bands and dj’s to perform on the islands.  The set up is really creative, with the click of a button the whole stage set up of Seawolf Park changes to fit the event. Atom Burhma did the building and design. Galveston in SL is brought to you by, Galveston.com and Company .

I perform at Galveston on Monday Afternoons at 1pmSLT.

Ratepoint Cafe is where I perform alternate Wednesdays and Fridays.  It is a nice little cafe that is sponsored by Ratepoint.com . Ratepoint brings in musicians and singers every tuesday through saturday at 4pmSLT. They only do one show a night, so the audience isn’t wiped out and the hostess, Circe Broom, can get to her other job hosting shows at her places on Laurel. Ratepoint has taken over the whole rating avatars process. The ability to rate used to be a selection on the pie chart in Second Life…NOW…we have ratepoint.

Lastly but not leastly, Avilion Isle….all I can say about this place is its an incredible build, very fantastical, and its residents are among the nicest group of people I have ever met in Second Life. They are very interesting too, with their costumes and some have pointy ears…i think I suffer from ear envy…I can’t get my ears that pointy. One thing about Avilion is their sense of community. They have a number of events that are organized and run by the residents under the watchful eye of Malakh Giles and Serenity Seiyes…the Lord and Lady of the Forest.  I perform on the Valinor Stage every 2nd and 4th Sunday.

Again…no pictures…because me and photobucket are not getting along.  I think my bucket has overflowed….at any rate…i just thought i’d blog to let everyone know where they can regularly find me in Second Life…tho’, joining the spam group would be easy to do as well.

Thanks so much for listening. :D  See you around the meta-world.

Tonight Live with Paisley Beebe

July 24, 2007 at 9:08 am (Live Music, Musicians)

This was a really a fun show and so well put together. I (the woman behind the veggie) have never been on a television program before…how amusing that my avatard was on one first…virtually. Kinda’ cool, I thinks it be. Paisley was a great conversationalist and I kept getting distracted by her accent…ooooh…the aussie accent is so cool! But the whole crew was so great and it was just a lot of fun to learn blocking avatar-style….too bad cylindrian doesn’t sweat when she’s nervous…now THAT would’ve been so realistic.

Here’s the Link to the recorded version of the show: Tonight Live with Paisley Beebe

Circe Broom and Haroldthe Burrel were on the program as well and that was really neat…Harold’s been a friend of mine for over a year and is been a HUGE organizer of Non-Profit events in Second Life most notably his work with Relay for Life and Circe was the woman who provided the first stream I ever broadcast on…that was so cool to be on the show. I felt like I’ve been on Leno now…anyone want a virtual autograph? Come on…you know you want one. Where’s my Rutabaga Tattoo??? hmmm??? Least I didnt’ trip and fall on my avatard face…cause that would be embarrassing.

I was nervous tho’…if you listen to the recording…I got all clammy and was like…um…uh…errp. Maybe I’d be the same way on Good Day Atlanta on Fox 5…IF I ever get booked on that…I suppose I have to really do something special to get on that show…because being a virtual musician just doesn’t impress the real life tv morning shows…no matter how many e-mails I send them. (could be my approach to the e-mails tho…maybe i need e-mail etiquette lessons)

My friend, Dolmere Talamasca, blogger extraordinaire…posted a blog that pretty much sums up the whole thing…so because I am so lazy that I cannot even blog on my own blog I have to refer my blog to other people’s blogs so they do all the work for me and all I have to do is generate a URL link…so here it is:

Dolmere’s ultra-mega blog of the Tonight Live Show

Thanks Dolmere for letting me ride your coattails.

Much Needed Vacation

July 16, 2007 at 10:55 pm (Musings)

It has been a while since i have taken a break from Second Life performances. I have been working incredibly hard for the past few months to save money for the Second Life Community Convention and to get the CD replicated and professionally packaged. This has been a difficult task, but one of course that I absolutely love….tho’ it has really taken its toll on me.

The CD is done…it is a compilation of live recordings that Alex Whitmore mixed and mastered a few of the tracks. It is again a very raw CD, much like the previous release, Living Stories. But this time I’m spending the extra money to have 1000 copies replicated and thanks to Dave Spencer for working on the graphics for me.
So, I am walking away from Second Life for a few days and traveling to the piedmont of South Carolina to spend some much needed time with my grandmother. If I can get a connection on the farm, I will log in and collect offline messages or you can reach me via Yahoo IM: cylindrian

Ah…the farm…summertime…my children….my grandma…I need this. You all have a great week and I’ll see ya’ on Friday, post-rest.

Interesting Links Regarding SLCC Streaming Audio

July 5, 2007 at 1:12 pm (Musings)

Here I am supposedly selected from audition mp3s sent in back in early March 2007 to perform at the Second Life Community Convention, supposedly to perform for a discount in registration but at the expense of airfare, transportation, food, and lodging along with long-time SL musicians, Frogg Marlowe and Jaycatt Nico, including Liam Roark on bass and Kyle Beltran on percussion. Six weeks before we are due to perform, for “exposure”, after airline tickets are booked with no refunds or penalized for exchanges, after hotel rooms are reserved, after going broke trying to record and get published a new cd in order to hopefully sign and sell to resident fans of my music, I and the other musicians and panelists involved are given a “contract” to sign.

The following links are a wealth of information on the subject.

Slim Warrior’s Blog on the subject expresses the frustration most eloquantly and the responses from the community are amazing!

Barney Boomslang’s Blog about this subject is quite an interesting read.

I have received no documentation regarding a re-written contract. This causes me great concern.
