The NEW SL Guitar

November 29, 2006 at 2:30 pm (Musings)

Takamine EAN-10C Crafted By Nomasha Syaka

This is by far the most beautiful instrument I have ever seen in Second Life. Nomasha worked long hours to make this guitar absolutely one of a kind. He made all the textures and every piece lines up precisely even the wood graining is virtually seamless. He spent time with me to get the details on the pick-up control exact as well as the look and style of the tuning pegs. I will treat this guitar as a gift from the angels…it stands as a testimony to the fine artistry that is ever present in Second Life. Thank you Nomasha for the honor of playing and displaying this EXQUISITE piece of work.

TEASER…just wait til you see this…

November 28, 2006 at 9:50 am (Live Music, Musings)

…the most beautifully crafted custom guitar I have EVER seen in Second Life is being created right now by Nomasha Syaka for me…He is by far the most talented builder I have seen…just wait til you see it!! Nomasha Syaka…remember that name!! Desmond Shang of Caledon introduced me to this talented person a few weeks ago when I wandered onto his sims…and I believe it was an incredible gift to me…Nomasha has gone to great lengths to craft a guitar that is exquisite…and true to my actual guitar. With matching up the wood grain and creating a label on the inside even to taking the time to work with me on the correct color and texture on my guitar’s tuning pegs. Oh, I am so excited to reveal this beautiful piece of artwork that my avatar will have the honor of playing. I’ll let you know when it comes ready and the concert in which it will be presented for the first time….I cannot wait to get my pixellated hands on this high quality instrument…now THIS will be my most prized possession in my SL Inventory.

Thank You…

November 27, 2006 at 8:21 am (Musings)

…to everyone who wished me a speedy recovery from Bronchitis. Yes, it was so great to be able to perform this weekend. Saturday was a whirlwind with 2 shows scheduled in the same day, but after having over a week off it went quite well. I was quite beat afterwards…but thoroughly enjoyed going to see Uncle Seth perform live from a venue in Toronto Canada. It sure was a lot of fun dancing with Dolmere, the skeleton king…we haven’t hung out in a while, so that was really cool…Dolmere and friends, Mera Pixel, Coal Nelson, Reina Quine, and others help Travis Lambert with The Shelter in Exile where they provide entertainment and instruction for new SL residents. A very nice group of people, I must say. Recently they have begun hosting Live Music Events on Thursdays at 5pmSLT…check the listings, Melvin Took is scheduled to play this Thursday. YAY!!!

Sunday was the day of the Command Performance at the lovely Queen May’s Grande Ballroom. Myself, Jeff Tully, and JueL Resistance played music for Her Majesty. It was so delightful. Artwork was displayed by none other than, Cainin Griffith, who I believe is fast becoming a common entry in this blog…I do believe he’s following me…should I be paranoid? He’s helping a mutual friend re-build a castle and village…this should be really interesting. Thanks to Cessee for the loan on the dress…I felt so pertiful. *sniff* and yes…no pictures…i forgot…AGAIN!! grrr…why do I always forget to take pictures…sure would make my blogger more interesting.

Check the schedule page for an update on shows for this week.

Thanks again for all of you who came out Saturday for Dan Doyle’s Open House…that was soooooooo much fun…and I only crashed…ONCE…whooohooooooooooo!!!

A Night of Music in SL

November 21, 2006 at 9:03 am (Musings)

Last nights’ musical adventures began at 4pmSLT over at The RoC in Music City where Charles Coleman played a 30 minute set of his fabulous covers…was there an original slipped in there as well?? ;) Charles is such a nice guy and he has created a great website for The RoC that is still currently under construction. He also has a wonderful style of guitar playing and I thoroughly enjoy hearing his interpretations of other people’s songs.

At 4:30pmSLT the beautiful, talented, and agellic, Mel Cheeky, took the stage….it was Nekkie Night and her avatar was exactly THAT…completely nekkie…save for a guitar of course. Mel has written over 36 original songs and she played one I’d never heard before last night called, Denial, and WOW…it was absolutely STUNNING. Her voice is very haunting and hangs over the picking and strumming of the guitar…very ethereal…just gorgeous. AND…she’s from Wales which makes her voice THAT much better because of the accent. Mel’s songs are extremely touching and make the listener feel like they are simply having a conversation with her…I just love her music. ***Mel is playing tonight (Wed 5pmSLT) at The Shelter in Exile…Read her interview with Dolmere Talamasca***

At 5pmSLT, still at The RoC in Music City, 1ofthesedays rust, took the stage and played some songs that he’s never played before after being challenged by Charles. “Lofty” as he’s known in SL, truly is an incredible guitar picker and is just so relaxed when playing. He’s jamming in his house and those who listen really get that same feeling…like we are all there in the living room with him. It’s great!! I haven’t been able to see Lofty play in a long time so this was a real treat for me. I’m so glad that I was able to make it out there to hear him again.

All donations during these performances were given to Habitat for Humanity for whom they are trying to raise $1,000 for. From what Mel said they are really close to raising that amount.

At 5:30pmSLT I zipped over to the Free Music Venue that SeanMcPherson Senior set up for musicians to use as an overflow venue for packed out performances or to do sound checks for gigs or impromptu concerts. This is what happened last night…Ronnie Carr gave a concert that lasted about an hour…Cainin Griffith, who has artwork on display at the venue, went to help Ronnie get set up and then we proceeded to teleport in folks to come hear Ronnie. He can really do a good Sinead….he covers a lot of songs and his originals are very well written and quite catchy. I hope that he’ll soon begin to find his niche in SL as well. It’s great to see people up and coming.

7pmSLT rolled around and I got word that Melvin Took was playing at Plush Gardens….i think that was the name…so, myself and others from the Ronnie gig zipped over to hear Melvin, Peter Greenstone as most of us know him by his real name. He was really just getting into the gig when sweet Jeska Linden had to send up the notice that they were taking down the grid. I was really disappointed because I had not been able to hear Peter in a long time. We used to play together every Tuesday at Sunset Music Pavillion, but as in RL…things change. It was great to hear him for the time that I was able to last night.

So, that was my night catching up on some music that I just haven’t been able to. There are so many musicians in SL and I find myself so torn as to where to go, what to do, what do I NEED to be doing….its really difficult. I know that my fellow musicians understand how difficult it is to be in more than one place at a time and still have time to take care of the things you HAVE to. I do try to be very supportive of my fellow performers…I appreciate all of them in their various styles and personalities…What an incredible place SL is…that all forms of music and art are so well displayed together. I find myself overwhelmed at the complexities and the various nuances that make up the SL Art and Music scene…and if I’m not able to come by and see you for a while, please, IM me…don’t feel like I’m not caring or anything…I’m just off soaking in all the beauty that I find all over the place in SL and get caught up in the moment.

Have a great day everyone who reads this. :) And check your Live Music Events listing to see who is playing tonight and every night.

Home Again

November 20, 2006 at 8:44 am (Musings)

Happy Rezz Day Juel Resistance…thank you for your openness and honesty…for not being afraid to just be you…and for giving this person more reasons to laugh…Juel, Ricard, Cainin, and myself had a lot of fun creating our own amusement park rides during Frogg/Jaycatt’s Show and Lyndon Hearts show.  The music was a perfect backdrop for kickin’ back and having some fun. I think JueL and I share the same aversion to wearing shoes.

Fish Heads and Charles Dickens

November 17, 2006 at 9:51 am (Musicians, Musings, tech-maybe?)

Last night after the show at The Shelter in Exile, I went back to my campfire to talk with Mokey Mokusei about the Veterans Day Simulcast Benefit that was held last Saturday on Menorca for an article in SLBusiness Magazine. That interview went a little bit longer than either of us had expected, but we had such a good time talking. I was late to JueL’s show over at Dreamland, but thankfully, JueL got started a little late so I was able to hear “Rooftop”…and her new song that she wrote after being inspired by Ricardo Sprocket. (I keep wanting to refer to Spacely Sprockets…whenever I read his name)

The night before I had participated with JueL and Ricardo on an impromptu relay jam on Angel of Montgomery…where I was the lead stream, JueL picked me up and broadcasted myself and herself to Ricardo who picked us both up and broadcasted himself and us together to the parcel…my goodness…did you get all that??? Anyhow…there were a handful of folks there listening and it was great to have Lecktor in the group as well…trying to get him outta his cacoon and immersed into the music scene to find his muse again. It was a lot of fun listening to the jam later…it is so complicated to rehearse when you can’t hear everyone at the same time…we have to figure out how to do it without so much delay. ;)

After JueL’s show I decided to go exploring. I had read the M2 earlier in the day and came across another ad for Caledon…so I did a quick search and popped over there to Caledon Moor where I was kindly greeted by two ladies in Victorian dress and speech. I was standing there with two fish swimming around my head, my skates, and sucking on a fish-shaped lollipop. Not really very Victorian of me. I spoke with the ladies and eventually asked about events and if they ever had Live Music there. The Baroness (i’ll insert name later as its completely slipped my brain at the moment) told me that I should speak to Desmond as he is the owner of Caledon. So, I did a search, IM’d the gentleman and unexpectadly…I got a VERY quick response. It was remarkable!! He tp’d myself and the Baroness where we met him Coyote (can never spell last names…sorry…I’ll insert that later too…man, this blogging stuff is hard) By the end of the evening, I’ve been made an Aristocrat by Desmond, purchased some Victorian clothes, am planning a Victorian Christmas Carols Concert on Caledon in December, and met a new Instrument Designer in SL AND was given a harmonica!! Caledon…is a really COOL place…can’t wait to explore it some more with my fish.

Now how come I can NEVER REMEMBER MY CAMERA??!!

Stop the MOOPF-ness!!!!

November 15, 2006 at 5:55 pm (Musings, tech)

Moopf Murray, a kind soul from the UK who makes vending machines, ice skates, the coolest roller skates EVER, and bubble-gum….is NOW mixed up in the “copybot witch hunt” because the person distributing copybot is doing so from a Moopf Murray Venopf Vending Machine that Moopf created. Moopf is in NO WAY distributing copybot, but he is being blamed for it because his vending machine was used.

Here are links to his blogs, please read, and know that this insanity is over mis-information…read the previous post about the Hooplah…I updated it moments ago after reading a post Cory Edo made on Second Citizen. Now he runs the risk of losing his business in SL because of this garbage.  He’s worked long and hard and created some incredible items and done great services in scripting/animation/tech stuffs…let’s not allow HIS business to be a casualty of CopyBot Madness.

Please you guys…STOP THE MOOPF-ness!!!! LEAVE MOOPF ALONE!!!

All the hoooplah…

November 15, 2006 at 5:03 pm (tech-maybe?)

So the latest drama to hit SL is this idea of the CopyBot and sims and stores and venues are shutting down all over the place and already planning litigation…its fascinating…andI honestly don’t have a clear and concise position on it. The music industry has been dealing with the rip-off of music for a long time, so its nothing new. That is why we have copyright laws and when I record a track, the date and time is saved within the program…and I pay the dues to get my items copyrighted.I found this site that explains the intent of the CopyBot…so read on and form your own opinion…its all very fascinating.

CopyBot by libSL

Some interesting articles and opinions:

Barney Boomslang

KnowProSE.com

Know what your rights are:

SL Terms of Service

SL’s Digital Millennium Copyright Act

It’s pandemonium and the end of the world as we know it. Honestly…at first its chaos…but if people take the time to step back and not buy into all the hype and mass hysteria…goodness…just settle down and read folks!! I went to plenty of demonstrations yesterday and it seemed like it was a witch hunt or like people so eager to FIGHT for something they’ll grab a sign and fight for ANYTHING even if they don’t understand it. I don’t get it y’all…there’s a lot about this that goes WAY over my head and I’m a normal enough person to admit that. But I did find these articles interesting and as long as we are familiar with the laws of the land…settle down and get informed and don’t just believe hype and rumor. Women and men were executed in Salem for hype and rumor…let’s not let SL go the same way.

Frogg Marlowe and Keiko Featured on MTV

November 15, 2006 at 2:29 pm (Live Music, Musicians, Musings)

Frogg Marlowe on MTV

Keiko Takamura on MTV

I was so impressed with MTV’s handling of Second Life Musicians, Frogg Marlowe and Keiko Takamura. Ordinarily, I am very skeptical about the covering of Second Life from “outside sources” because I have found some articles to be smug and condescending to musicians who use technology to market their music. These articles/news clips were very tastefully done and I was quite pleased to see two of my favourite SL Musicians so well represented.

WAY TO GO FROGG AND KEIKO!!! and thank you to MTV for the good report….I just have one question…WHERE’S JAYCATT???

ING sim opening

November 15, 2006 at 12:08 pm (Musings)

Monday morning I had the priviledge of playing a sim opening for ING. Alas, again I neglected to take pictures DURING the show…it is difficult for one to take pictures whilst playing an instrument and singing…nonetheless, I would’ve loved to have pictures of all the INGnoobies that joined me on the stage. It was GREAT fun to watch all these dutch people fly around, try out rockets, bump into things, sit at my stage and play piano, put on strange shapes, dance on tables, and attempt to build.

I remember my first days in Second Life, I didn’t even attempt building…let alone terraforming, but apparently people were terraforming the land and throwing prims all over the place. I was most amused by the men running around in string bikini’s. The laiason’s from RiversRunRed were working tirelessly to teach the many new SL’rs how to build, how to work and modify their avatar, and how to drive motorized vehicles in the metaverse.

I for one do not know exactly HOW this could be of use to them in the banking industry, but there MUST be some correlation that I, a lowly musician, am just not privvy to. I’ll leave that in the hands of the big business heads…and I’ll just sit back and enjoy the entertainment.

Following are some photo’s that I took after my performance was over…the SIM was MOST impressive. I loved the buildings…as I am a coinnesseur of architecture, sculpture, and things I find pretty…which is one reason I appreciate the creativity in Second Life so much.Paradise Popinjay played later on in the day and WOW…what an INCREDIBLE piano player/entertainer he is. I just LOVE this guy!!!  As you can see from this picture…so did the avatars. ;)
