Last night on Alegria…Jimmyt49 Dukes

October 30, 2006 at 9:49 am (Musicians, Musings)

Last night…WOW…what a night!! I had the priviledge of listening to an incredible blues singer/guitar player last night. HOLY MOLY!! Jimmyt49 Dukes made his Debut on the SL music scene last night and left a crowd of close to or over 60 avatars (as i handed out the broadcast URL to folks who couldn’t make it into the Sim as it was full at 50 but for some reason squeezed in 55)….AMAZED,MESMERIZED,DROOLING, and as some women have a tendency to do…SWOONING.

This man left me speechless! I thoroughly enjoyed listening to him and his lovely wife, both of whom played and sang on another chat program that I used to use to market music before being introduced to Second Life by Neil Morrison, Russell Eponym, Mel Cheeky, and Phishy Noodle. *plug plug plug…all of whom are INCREDIBLE musicians, Russell and Neil are a part of a band called, Spinning Mules, which are Extraordinary and have been heard in SL before.*

where was i…Yes, Jimmyt49 Dukes…add this man to your MUST SEE lists!! He was outstanding!! His voice was incredible and his guitar picking skills phenom…when I grow up…I wanna play like this guy. So, there it is…OH…and being as distracted as I was by the music, I failed to get any Photo’s from Last Nights Shows. Could someone please post some if you took them? Thank you so much!!

Have a blessed day!!

Techie-no-Likey

October 29, 2006 at 8:50 am (tech-maybe?)

Alas…I am a dullard!!  So, I attempted to create SLurl links to the venues within Second Life that I am performing in on the Schedules Page…they worked yesterday and today, they actually take me to REAL LIFE places.  I have learned that there really IS a city called Kokomo and there is a Bourton Village in the UK…wow…i did not know that.

So, here is what I need…I need a Rubio-esque Instruction Manual on how to create a link from this site to inworld activities. *i just read his entry on how to make pickles on his bloggy blog* If someone, can please help me with that…I do not understand the workings of HTML. *sniff*

Here is what I did so maybe it will help to make it more obvious what my error is:

  1. i typed the location name into my blog
  2. i highlighted the text
  3. with text highlighted i clicked on the *hyperlink* symbol in the editor window
  4. i typed in the following into the link portion: secondlife://location/x/y/z
  5. i selected save
  6. before leaving the window i hit CTRL-click on mouse and it took me to automatically launch SL.  *i teared up i was so happy that it appeared to work. any techie success i have i am thrilled by…now one day i’ll understand recursive algorithms*
  7. once that was complete, i selected *publish*  and thought all was well with the world
  8. upon logging into the actual page tho’…and selecting the highlighted linky portion…it took me directly to a REAL LIFE website.

Any further assistance would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you sooooooooo much.  :D

Veterans Day November 11th

October 28, 2006 at 9:38 pm (Musings)

On this day, I’ll be doing a show in Second Life at Menorca in Real Life at Jittery Joe’s Coffee Shop. Joining me will by my friend, singer/songwriter/producer/kazoomaster, Glen Pridgen. The show will be going from 4:30-7:30pmSLT. Glen and I will be working on some songs together AND…there is a slight chance that I’ll be joined by another Second Life musician, if she can afford the travel expenses to come to Atlanta. I will announce later one way or the other.

I would like to have Yellow Armbands and/or Ribbons made for us all to wear inworld. I attempted making something today, but alas, I am merely a musician…not a designer. *coughs* So, if someone would be willing to make something like that, I’d greatly appreciate it.

Also, I have had two songs suggested by a Veteran that Glen and I perform:

Proud to be an American-Lee Greenwood

Love Me When I’m Gone-Three Doors Down

*if you have any other songs to suggest that would be appropriate or if you are a veteran and have a song that is particularly meaningful to you, them please list it here and we’ll work on adding it to the set list*

I am also hoping to honor the veterans of other countries that are represented in Second Life as well. This is NOT just for American Veterans…since Second Life is a WorldWide Community, I would like to get some ideas on how to honor those Veterans in various other countries.
And if you have any other ideas on how to make this event more meaningful, please feel free to suggest things on this blog. That is what its here for. Thank you so much. :D I look forward to hearing your ideas and song requests.

October 27, 2006 at 8:51 am (tech-maybe?)

#1. i can’t categorize worth doodillydoo…how do i organize my thoughts more effectively?
#2. how do i add SLurlS to this site so on my schedule page people can link automatically and teleport in SL to the venue i’m playing at?

#3. i’ve searched the net over and thought i found true love, you met another and pfffft you was gone. (anyone remember HeeHaw….anyone?….anyone?…hmmm?…roy…that dude with the american flag guitar…what was his name…junior…grandma…the ladies with the big……hair….and corn….lots and lots of corn…oh and HAY…lots of hay too…anyone??).

#4. how many licks DOES it take to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop?

#5. what is the thrill of naked cartoons using animated poseballs to gyrate? (unless of course its an animated poseball made by caux…some of you know the one i’m talking about)

a tie that binds

October 27, 2006 at 8:28 am (Musings, sappy)

WARNING: this post is going to be sappy…hence the addtional category aptly entitled…”sappy” if you are opposed to sappy, then please DO NOT READ THIS!! if sappy is not a threat to your psyche…then by all means read on.

second life has been such an incredible journey for me…i started off with a group of people that migrated from another chat program where we met in music rooms and played many songs together. i started off your average SL height of 7 feet tall…before settling in at a comfortable 6 foot….now i stand at 5′6″…my hair has gone through a number of changes as has my skin….i love having freckles and now green hair with the option to change at any given moment.

i am not aversed to change. in fact, i quite thrive in it. diversity and spontaneity are two of my muses…along with the outdoors, water, movies, and stories. one thing that i love about my profession (if you want to call it that…i call it a party a music staff) is that music is a tie that binds. i am a very shy person…but i’ve found that music is a way in which people relate to one another….it is such a personal thing.  i am not comfortable in a crowd of people…i find myself either sitting off silently or typing stupid crap hoping maybe one time i might be able to interject something of relevance into the conversation…but…my saving grace is this…private conversation.

it is in these moments where i find myself enthralled by people that are longing to be heard. to be REALLY listened to. it is in these moments that i get completely lost and only then do i remember that i’m in the middle of a group…just standing and not saying anything out loud…oops…how rude of me. i do love to talk…mind you…i’m very chatty as many of you know, but…you also may notice that its generally in a more one on one situation. ..but those are the perfect settings for…

…stories…i love stories…to hear about peoples lives, their struggles, their successes, and subsequent failures. i have them…my SL/RL history is pock-marked with successes, mistakes, burnt bridges, rejection, but most of all…understanding and acceptance. in SL, i have met some of the most amazing people, musicians, artists, writers, doctors, teachers, rebels, technical genius’ who’s form of creativity is WAY over my realm of comprehension..tho’ i do TRY, believe me…i do. what an amazing world we have here. i find myself every day blown away by the new things, new people, new artists, coming in to second life. i can’t keep up. but my favourite moments are those when sitting by my virtual campfire with a friend, just listening…as they remove their virtual mask for just a moment to allow me to see a tiny glimpse into a part of their life. i love that. second life has bridged a gap for me…one that this shy person never dreamed to even step on…let alone walk across.

i just wanted to say thank you, to those of you who have blessed me with your friendship…your time…your appreciation…your understanding…your forgiveness (cause i mess up a lot)…your acceptance….your patience…and your support.

life is an incredible journey…thank you for sharing your journey with me in some way.

*you have now reached the end of the sappiness…after a few moist towellettes, you should be free of the sap and may go about your day. thank you*
